Ella Josephine Baker (December 13, 1903–December 13, 1986) was a pioneering civil rights organizer whose work strengthened the NAACP and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In 1960, she helped bring student activists together at Shaw University to establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). A champion of grassroots organizing, Baker mentored young leaders and encouraged ordinary people to claim their power in the struggle for freedom and equality.

This original Ethnicitees linocut by Sean Ramon Montague honors Ella Baker’s enduring legacy of community leadership and collective action, transforming Black history into an educational Cultural Wearable.
