Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges
Ruby Bridges, born September 8, 1954, became a courageous symbol of the Civil Rights Movement at just six years old. On November 14, 1960, escorted by four federal marshals, she became the first Black child to desegregate William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. Despite intense hostility, Ruby attended faithfully and helped advance equal access to education. She later established the Ruby Bridges Foundation to promote tolerance, respect and positive change through education.
This commissioned Ethnicitees linocut pays homage to Norman Rockwell’s legendary 1964 painting, “The Problem We All Live With,” while presenting an original hand-rendered and carved interpretation of Ruby Bridges’ historic journey. Sean Ramon Montague’s relief-block aesthetic is reproduced on apparel through high-resolution screen printing, transforming Black history into an educational “Cultural Wearable.”
Original artwork illustrated, carved and designed by Sean Ramon Montague for Ethnicitees, LLC.
